The Paul Smith for HP Sauce bottle has become the must-have designer item in London this month, if the queues and rationing at Harrods, where it is being sold, are anything to go by.

To be sure of acquiring one, savvy shoppers have to get to the store early because only 100 are on sale each day, with a limit of one bottle per person. Not since the war have we seen queuing of this nature for such a staple. The fact that it forms part of Harrods' 'Truly British' season is spot-on because as a nation we love to queue. It is also brilliant to see the stampede that a good bit of packaging and well-thought-out promotion can cause.
