The new president of the University of Colorado wants to stop the use of public money for alcohol, but the goal is proving to be easier said than done.

The university spent more than $508,000 at liquor establishments over a five-year span, according to school spending records. The total does not include what CU employees spent on liquor while traveling or alcohol purchases that were part of catering bills.
