Signs point to women professors showing more interest in helping students than their male counterparts, according to a study done by the Higher Education Research Institute at the University of California at Los Angeles.

About 25% more female than male professors cited enhancing students' knowledge of and appreciation for other racial/ethnic groups as a "very important" or "essential" goal.
