Oct. 6--Finance Minister Thanong Bidaya insists the government will not pay more than the book value of 2.88 baht per share to take over Don Muang Tollway Co.

The ministry is currently in a dispute with the Panichcheewa family, the founders of Don Muang Tollway, about the price of the family's shares to be sold.

"Although the group has agreed in principle to sell its stake to the government, it wants to sell them at 13 baht apiece. We won't agree because we wouldn't be able to explain to the public why we paid such a high price for the debt-ridden tollway project," Dr Thanong said.
