Govt halts encephalitis vaccinations / Possible side effects, drop in cases to end public-funded inoculations

The Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry is to halt its publicly funded recommended inoculations against Japanese encephalitis effective immediately, ministry officials said Monday.

The decision to stop recommending vaccinations against the disease, which results in serious inflammation of the brain, marks a major change in the ministry's vaccination policy.
