Oct. 4--Asia-Pacific carriers look set to post far better financial results this year than their counterparts in the United States and Europe with an estimated profit of US$1 billion, thanks to competitive advantages including lower labour costs.

But the expected profit across Asia-Pacific can hardly be considered satisfactory as it is less than half of the results the region's operators achieved last year, according to Albert Tjoeng of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
