Digital music sales triple in '05
Driven by demand in the U.S., Britain, Japan, Germany and France, legal music downloads hit $790 mil in the first half of '05, more than 3 times the $220 mil made in the year-ago period. Downloads now equal 6% of music industry sales. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry also said that non-digital music sales slipped 6.3% to $12.4 bil, with CD sales down 6.7% by value and 3.4% in unit volume.
