The Dow industrials finished Friday's session with a 0.2% gain; the S&P 500 advanced a fraction. Volume was lower.

Flowers Foods bloomed 1.02 to 27.28 in triple normal turnover. The stock rebounded after closing below its 10-week moving average the week ended Sept. 23. Friday the Georgia-based maker of packaged bakery goods estimated its costs at $8 million from recent hurricanes, and raised its long-term sales goals, saying revenue grew in the first half of this year.

Hornbeck Offshore Services saw its third day in a row with upside action in heavy volume. The stock gained 0.53 to close at 36.63. Trade swelled nearly tenfold. The company expanded the size of a stock offering to 6.1 million shares, priced at $35.35 each. Proceeds will go toward construction and retrofitting of transport vessels for the offshore oil business.

Tetra Technologies found support at its 10-week line, finishing the session at 31.22, a gain of 0.81 in twice regular turnover. The stock is up 43% from its 21.81 buy point.
