Let Government Handle It
As a longtime IBD subscriber, I am always amused by the "market knows best" slant IBD consistently takes. The Sept. 26 edition was a fantastic example of the contradiction that the editorial staff must face daily.
Specifically, having the glowing article about "John Muir's Farseeing Nature" (Leaders & Success) and his wonderful insight for helping establish the U.S. national parks system and Forestry Service contradicted by "Profits And Losses" (Editorial) where, once again, IBD's solution to our energy woes hinges on unrestrained development of the same wonderful public wilderness that Muir dedicated his life to protect from development.
Ironic, isn't it?
Also ironic is IBD's ostrich attitude that the U.S. can solve its energy and associated political problems (yes, they are related) by finding and developing more oil. The writing is on the wall for all to see:
Oil will only become a scarcer commodity as other nations attempt to become like the U.S. with their burgeoning middle classes.
Why IBD does not use its editorial voice and lobbying to help get us weaned from the great oil problem is beyond this and (I assume) many other subscribers.
