U.N. Official Warns Of Flu Deaths

A top United Nations official said a new Avian flu pandemic could kill 5-150 million people unless governments halt the spread in Asia. The H5N1 bird flu has killed 65 people and tens of millions of birds. If the virus mutates, it could spread from birds to humans.

Health Plans On Buying Spree

Privately held firms HIP Health Plan and Group Health said they'll merge to create a company with 5 million members in New York and $7 billion in sales. The deal should help them compete with national plans such as WellPoint, which will buy New York-based WellChoice for $6.5 billion.
