Section: General News - The Foreign Ministry yesterday defended its decision to consider hiring lobbyists at a cost of about Bt1.5 million a month to win US support for Deputy Prime Minister Surakiart Sathirathai's bid to become the next UN secretary-general, The Nation reports.

Foreign Minister Kantathi Suphamongkhon said his ministry had been gathering information and studying the possibility of hiring American lobbyists to support Surakiart's bid and the matter was still under consideration.
