Parliament Speaker Bulent Arync, whose sharp remarks last year criticizing the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq sparked adverse reactions from Washington, expressed hope yesterday that his talks in the United States would be "useful."

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Washington, Arync noted that he had been invited to the United States by Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Dennis Hastert. His visit is the first at this level from Turkey to the United States
