Kampala Uses 5m Bags of Charcoal Annually.

Kampala district alone consumes over 5,000,000 bags of charcoal annually well over 50 percent of the total national consumption.

This is according to findings of a survey done last year to establish the annual charcoal consumption in Kampala and its source districts.

The main supplying districts include Nakasongola, Luwero, Kiboga and Masindi.

The study, sponsored by the ministry of Energy, projects an increase in charcoal use in Kampala by 33 percent by end of this year making 301,507 tonnes from 200,000 tonnes recorded between 1995 and 2004.
