Oct. 1--A judge on Friday deferred a decision on whether to block 13 employees who recently joined Yahoo from working on the same technology they had been developing for their former employer, Nuance Communications.
Warning that the companies were about to get entangled in a "protracted" and "very expensive" legal battle over alleged unfair competition and theft of trade secrets, Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Kevin McKenney urged the two sides to resolve their conflict out of court.
Yahoo and Nuance will be negotiating over the weekend, but will return to court Monday morning if necessary.
