It was a quiet, non-descript suburb of the grim northern English town of Bolton - until the neighbours from hell arrived.

Infamous Loyalist terror boss Johnny Adair fled from a deadly Belfast feud with his Loyalist supporters to this unlikely location. To say his new neighbours weren't thrilled would be an understatement.

Adair joined the so-called 'Bolton Wanderers' or 'Shankill Exiles' on his release from prison at the start of this year. He was airlifted from RAF Aldergrove to Manchester in secrecy.

Earlier this week Adair was arrested for allegedly beating up his wife - there was drink involved - in front of local children in the park down the road from their home, a rented terraced house on Chorley New Road, Horwich, in Bolton.

He was kept in jail overnight before pleading guilty at the magistrates' court, an attempt to keep his head down and make the incident go away. He faces a community service order when sentenced at the end of this month.

Also this week Adair was released after spending 39 days in custody on charges of harassing two former members of his gang who had also decamped to Bolton over the past two-and-a-half years. Not many people would be kept in jail without bail ...
