1975: Becomes manager of St Mirren.
1978: Appointed manager of Aberdeen and helps break the Celtic-Rangers duopoly, going on to win two Scottish league titles and one European Cup Winners Cup trophy.
1986: Becomes caretaker Scotland manager, overseeing a disappointing World Cup campaign. Appointed manager of Manchester United on November 9, replacing Ron Atkinson.
1989: One of lowest points in the club's history when they are beaten 5-1 by newly promoted rivals Manchester City.

1993: Premier League champions; Manchester United win the title for the first time in 26 years. Ferguson buys Roy Keane from Nottingham Forrest for a then record GBP3.75 million.
