FINALLY, JOSE PEPING COJUANGCOS EFFORTS TO FORM A NEW BASKETball federation has borne fruit. And if the stakeholders move fast enough, the Philippines stint in the coming Southeast Asian Games could yet be salvaged.
Cojuangco, the president of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), recently signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the international basketball federation (Fiba) that, among others, will allow the POC to spearhead the formation of a new and unified basketball federation in the country.
The agreement leaves the door open for the staging of [the] basketball [competitions] during the Southeast Asian Games, said Cojuangco, who was due to arrive late last night.
There is severe time constraint, but the prospects are there. It now depends heavily on how our stakeholders will respond to this opportunity.
The signatories to the agreement, a copy of which was obtained by the Inquirer from a Fiba source, were Cojuangco, POC chair Robert Aventajado and Fiba secretary general Patrick Baumann.
