RANKING HOUSE MEMBERS yesterday sought an end to the Senate investigation into the controversial Northrail contract, saying that any delay in the project could jeopardize the countrys diplomatic ties with China.
Lakas-CMD Representatives Monico Puentevella (Bacolod City), chair of the House committee on transportation and Edwin Uy (Isabela), vice chair of the committee on Northwest Luzon Growth Quadrangle, also said the inquiry had been used by opponents of President Macapagal-Arroyo to smear her administration.
Destroying the countrys relations with China at this initial stage may prevent the country from strengthening its ties with the Chinese government and will have drastic repercussions in the future, Puentevella said.
He asked why the Senate decided to investigate the project only now when this has been pending since the time of former President Ramos.
