Oct. 1--The government should invest more to stimulate the economy as long as it can avoid twin deficits in both the current account and fiscal balance, suggests Virabongsa Ramangkura, an adviser to Finance Minister Thanong Bidaya.

Of the government's planned public investment of 1.7 trillion baht, only 600 billion baht or 35 percent will directly stimulate the economy. These include mass-transit and energy-related projects. The balance of 1.1 trillion baht had been earmarked for social projects, he noted.
