Berlin - For Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder Europe has plunged into a severe crisis. "This is one of the most severe crises that Europe has ever experienced," Schroeder said shortly after the failure of the EU summit in Brussels, Friday night [17 June], at which it was impossible to come to an agreement over the bloc's finances. The Chancellor blamed the failure primarily on Great Britain and the Netherlands, for their "extremely intransigent attitude."
