Sep. 29--Elizabeth Fabien entered the dragon on Wednesday.
She and 20 friends slid under its neon silk skin and carried its papier-mache head, snaking through the halls of Miami Dade College's North Campus.
Crashing cymbals and knocking gongs, the student parade called classmates outside to celebrate the start of the school year at the college's North Campus with a Chinese-themed bash.
'When I first saw it, I was like, What is that!' " Fabien said of the 150-foot dragon. "But just to see all of us together making sounds, dancing around, it was a happy thing."
More than 400 students followed their call, flocking to the southern shore of the campus lake, where college president Jose Vicente welcomed them to Student Appreciation Day with a Chinese dragon festival.
"We wanted to maximize the opportunity for our students to expose them to a culture they might not have known before," Vicente said in an interview.
