Sep. 29--Residents along Northeast 123rd Street in North Miami believe landscaped medians will solve traffic problems and beautify the eastern entrance to the city from the Broad Causeway.
Residents of Keystone Point and Arch Creek East homeowners' associations, which border the street, spoke at a recent City Council meeting.
Medians would prevent people from turning left willy-nilly from the strip malls along the street, which causes major congestion at times, said Ilana Burdick of the Arch Creek East homeowners association.
"It could stop a lot of accidents," said Jim Tracton of the Keystone Point association. "You've got 30 or 40 cars at a time trying to turn out of Walgreens onto the Broad Causeway."
Annie Montgomery, who was the first to suggest the medians, lives a block north of the strip and said she's seen dozens of accidents caused by people trying to turn.
"This is a kind of entrance to our city," Montgomery said. "When people are coming out of North Bay Village, it would be nice to see a sign saying 'Welcome to North Miami.' "
