The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is making use of information technology (IT) to have an effective management of the national highways projects in progress.

The projects envisaged are: computerized project information system (CPIS); asset inventorization and e-tendering. CPIS, to be completed by Oct 2005, is an internet-based solution giving online information about projects, specifically on construction of highways.

Presently CPIS will cover about 100 ongoing road projects (about 6,000 kilometers), to be extended as new roads are added.
