Maverick independent lawmaker Lee Ao charged President Chen Shui-bian yesterday with wounding his Vice President Annette Lu on March 19 last year to win sympathy votes.

The TV talk show host-turned legislator told a press conference a U.S. Central Intelligence Agency source gave him a secret report pointing to the president as the culprit.

"Secret information I have received," Lee said, "shows President Chen Shui-bian wanted to wound his vice president to win sympathy."
