Washington, 10 May: The United States said Tuesday [10 May] its communication channel with North Korea in New York remains open and will be used at an appropriate time.

But the State Department's press relations director, Tom Casey, made clear that the so-called New York channel is not a place for negotiation and the US has no plan to use it at present.

"The New York channel obviously exists and it remains open, and we'll use it when we deem it appropriate, as we have in the past," Casey said during a press briefing.
