Effective August 5, 2005, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) added mercury-containing equipment to the Universal Waste Rules. As outlined in the July 2005 Environs, Universal Waste Rules streamline the management requirements and provide flexibility for the proper management of specific wastes.
Mercury-containing equipment includes devices, items or articles that contain elemental mercury, including instruments that are widely used in electrical utilities, municipalities and households.
