August jobseeker numbers up surprising 1%.

Israel National Employment Service director general Esther Dominicini said today that there were a seasonally adjusted 229,100 jobseekers in August 2005. The number of jobseekers rose by 1%, or 2,100 persons, compared with July, despite the downward trend in unemployment.

Dominicini said trend figures showed no decline in the number of unemployed, which reached 210,900 in August. When the Wisconsin plan is taken into account, the number of jobseekers in August reached 236,300 2.6% more than the 230,200 jobseekers in July, an increase of 6,100 new jobseekers in original figures.
