The leading maker of statistical software for both mainframes and PCs is now beta testing its first full suite of tools for Microsoft Windows.

SAS Institute's SAS System for Windows, Developer Release lets developers at more than 500 sites begin using SAS' rich set of development tools for Windows.

The Windows release will accelerate use of SAS as a leading tool to let end-users access enterprise data, according to officials at SAS, based in Cary, N.C.

"I wish they'd release it tomorrow,'' said Jerry Johannesen, senior engineer at Southern Company Services Inc. of Atlanta. "It's a lot faster than the DOS version we've been using.''
