Banyan Systems Inc.'s Intelligent Messaging (IM) engine, due out next month, simplifies E-mail management for systems running atop the Vines network operating system, company officials said at last week's product announcement.
Analysts said IM will compete, in part, with Novell's recently announced NetWare Global Messaging (NGM). "It's an overlap, but not a complete overlap," said Paul Zagaeski, senior analyst with the Yankee Group, in Boston.
Although NGM is predominantly oriented to back-end operations and improving WAN connectivity, the first release of IM provides management features requested by Vines users, Zagaeski said.
