The resumed privatisation of the of the $40 million Kinyara Sugar Works in Uganda has attracted four foreign investors.

The companies are Booker Tate Management Consultancy, which is currently managing the company, the Aga Khan Group, and two unnamed firms - one each from Libya and South Africa.

But a local sugar firm - Kakira Sugar, which is owned by the Madhivani Group - might pose a strong challenge to the foreign bidders. Kakira has for long been interested in acquiring Kinyara Sugar Works and had placed itself as the core investor in the 2002 failed …
