EAST MANATEE -- Janice Appel knows the days of women solely working at home, cooking and cleaning and rearing children, are long gone.

Of course, that option still exists, but now society has accepted another: Women can be business owners.

From Myakka City to Parrish to East Bradenton, women have opened real estate companies, floral and coffee shops, restaurants, and pet salons. Women here are hoping to be successful in an area filled with growth.
