SIR: While I welcome your contributions in recent months to the debate about an Australian republic, I am bemused by the tone of your regular criticisms of the Australian Republican Movement. We in the ARM are determined and persistent but I can see no justification whatsoever for you (Editorial, May 2005) to describe us as "fanatics". Any open-minded look at our leadership, membership and contribution to debate both past and present shows that is just not true.
