SIR: Nothing that Ian Kelley has said or quoted (Letters, July-August 2005) controverts my claim that Whitlam could have had more time had he not chosen to call on the Governor-General on November 11, 1975. Whitlam has claimed that some Senators were likely to crack, and that the Governor-General had pre-empted this possibility. If this was so, then why did Whitlam decide, at least by Friday November 7, to go for a half-Senate election?
