SAO PAULO, BRAZIL -- Cargill Agricola S.A., the Brazilian arm of Cargill, Inc., has entered a joint venture agreement with two local sugar trading companies to acquire sugar and alcohol producer Acucareira Corona SA. The deal further bolsters Cargill's position in the country's sugar producing and export businesses.
The company, which employs 7,000 people, operates mills in Guariba and Araraquara that are said to be capable of processing as much as six million tons of sugar cane annually. In addition, the Guariba mill produces about 49.4 million gallons of alcohol each year, almost all of which is used domestically.
