JASPER County, South Carolina, is the pivot in a de facto battle between South Carolina and Georgia for bragging rights on the Savannah River, which forms the state line that divides them.

The South Carolina Supreme Court is to hear opening arguments on September 20 in a case that should decide which entity South Carolina or Jasper County gets to develop a new Jasper terminal and port.

Georgia owns the land in dispute on the South Carolina side of the river.However, under a perpetual dispensation to the US Army Corps of Engineers, the land is earmarked for dredge spoil from the river.
