SAN FRANCISCO -- Prominent California landscape artist, architect and Bay Area resident Jim Caldwell unveils a new series of paintings of San Francisco's Presidio in a one-day public exhibition at the Glass Palace in the Presidio on Sunday, May 15, 2005, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Glass Palace, 924 Mason Street in Crissy Field, is approximately 1 mile from the Marina Boulevard entrance to the Presidio. The public showing is preceded on Saturday, May 14 by a private reception for invited guests and members of the press.

An award-winning painter of California landscapes, Caldwell presents a new body of work that celebrates the beauty and wonder of the Presidio. Caldwell says of these paintings, "I am trying to make the public more aware of the beauty of the Presidio, and the importance of its preservation."

Landscapes include Crissy Field seen from several vantage points, views of Point Lobos and the Golden Gate from above Baker Beach, the changing light of the Presidio's dense forests, and other scenes. Caldwell's skill is evident in his ability to capture the clarity and brightness of a light-filled day in San Francisco, the wind-swept trees of the City's northern coastline, and the subdued and diffused tones of an overcast day. Caldwell has spent most of his life in the Bay Area, dividing his time between painting and residential Architectural Design at his studio in Woodside. Caldwell's landscape paintings were profiled in his recent book, "The Golden Coast: From Big Sur to the Russian River," which was honored as Best Art Book of 2004 by the Bay Area Independent Publishers Association. He currently teaches painting classes at Stanford University.
