Spanish insurance group Mapfre's positive first quarter results have been undermined by investors' concerns over the company's seeming inability to complete a takeover operation in a foreign market. Mapfre has twice failed to acquire a targetted company since June 2004, most recently with Real Seguros in Brazil. The Spanish group says that it is looking for opportunities in Brazil and Mexico, as well a number of countries in Europe.
