Sep. 14--TOPEKA -- A report released Tuesday singled out 16 Kansas school districts as getting the best results on reading and math tests for their taxpayer dollars.
Absent from the list were all of the state's largest urban and suburban districts.
Those districts were included in the study, but didn't make the list in part because they offer courses and services not required by the state.
Gov. Kathleen Sebelius outlined the preliminary results at a briefing with officials from Standard & Poor's School Evaluation Services, which she hired in March.
Districts that topped the firm's performance list ranged in size from 350 to 6,000 students.
