Sep. 13--Robert Basso, the president of Advantage Payroll Services in Hicksville, has a problem other business executives might envy, up to a point: His business is expanding. Unfortunately, he can't find enough qualified employees.
"We are hiring voraciously," said Basso, who has 22 employees but hopes to add up to 16 more by early next year. However, "because of the expense of living here on Long Island it's difficult to attract the right people."
His hiring wish list reflects a much improved employment picture on Long Island. Just over 40 percent of Long Island employers said they expect to hire more workers in the fourth quarter, a new survey shows.
