German chemicals and pharmaceuticals group Bayer revealed improved first quarter results at the AGM earlier this week. In the first three months of the year, turnover was up to 6.7bn euros, an increase of one-sixth on the first quarter last year. Ebit increased by 50 per cent to 1.1bn euros. The division that performed best was Bayer Material Sciences (BMS), its plastics division, which saw turnover increase by 34 per cent and ebit triple in comparison with the same period last year.
