Vivantes, the German state-owned operator of hospitals and clinics in Berlin, says it is on course to complete its recovery programme by the end of the year. Like many other hospitals in Berlin, Vivantes is struggling with high costs. Consultancy McKinsey was enlisted last year to identify where savings could be made and to help Vivantes bring the costs of its hospitals back down to the national average by 2008.
