NEW YORK -- The Foundation Center elected a new chairman and vice chairman and two trustees at its board meeting on April 26.
M. Christine DeVita, president of the Wallace Foundation, was named board chairman. Prior to joining the Foundation (formerly known as the Wallace-Reader's Digest Funds) in 1987, she was deputy general counsel for the Reader's Digest Association. A Center trustee since 2003, Ms. DeVita is also a member of the Queens College Foundation's board of directors.
Susan Lajoie Eagan, executive director of Case Western Reserve University's Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations, was named vice chairman. Ms. Eagan previously served as executive vice president of the Cleveland Foundation. She has been a member of the Center's board since 1999 and serves on several other nonprofit boards.
The new trustees are Ralph R. Smith, senior vice president of the Annie E. Casey Foundation, and Barron "Buzz" Tenny, executive vice president, secretary, and general counsel of the Ford Foundation. Prior to joining the Casey Foundation in 1994, Mr. Smith was founding president and executive director of Philadelphia Children's Network Inc. He was also associate professor of law at the University of Pennsylvania for more than 20 years. Mr. Tenny joined the Ford Foundation in 1983. He had previously served as general counsel, vice president, and assistant secretary of Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, a community development corporation in Brooklyn, N.Y.
