(From Hull Daily Mail)
With three days to go to the election, Matthew Crowshaw turns the spotlight on Haltemprice and Howden in the Mail's latest constituency profile. Rival candidates in what is expected to be a close contest also speak on the issues facing voters The recent visit of Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy to Howden was a clear signal of the party's intent to oust sitting MP David Davis.
Such high-profile politicians are seldom wheeled out without good reason.
To any observer, it's obvious Haltemprice and Howden is a two-horse race between the Tories and Lib Dems.
Since 2001, when Lib Dem candidate Jon Neal came second by 1,903 votes to Mr Davis, the party has worked to give their man a chance of toppling one of the top Tories.
Mr Kennedy's visit to Howden School, complete with national media entourage, was the culmination of that effort.
Mr Davis, the shadow home secretary, has by no means the slimmest majority in the country, but the Lib Dems believe it can be overturned, having made it their top target in Yorkshire. Haltemprice and Howden is also the only constituency in East Yorkshire where there is a realistic possibility of a senior MP losing his seat.
