Sep. 7--TOKYO -- Sony is stepping up the promotion of its LCD television sets with plans to market its Bravia brand in Thailand by mid-2006, before the start of the football World Cup.

The new LCD (liquid crystal display) line will be launched in Japan later this month, and in other Asia-Pacific countries by October.

The line consists of nine models, according to Hiroshi Kikuchi, general manager for the display marketing group of Sony Electronics Asia Pacific.
