PRAGUE, June 1 (CTK) - The junior government Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL) failed to persuade the senior Social Democrats (CSSD) and the junior Freedom Union-DEU (US-DEU) to temporarily halt the information campaign on the European constitution.
KDU-CSL chairman Miroslav Kalousek told journalists that his party's ministers will submit the proposal to suspend the campaign to the government. He however said he expects the rest of the government to outvote them.
Kalousek said the CSSD refused to take part in a meeting of all democratic parties at which politicians would discuss the Czech position after the French rejected the constitution in a referendum on Sunday.
CSSD head Stanislav Gross said that citizens are entitled to get information on the document and that the process of ratification should continue.
