PRAGUE, June 1 (CTK) - A marked fall of sales of hallmarked gold seen in the past years slowed in the Czech Republic in 2004, and demand for silver jewellery has been steadily rising, the Assay Office statistics have revealed.
A total of 4,252 kg of gold jewellery assayed by the Office were supplied to the Czech market last year, a drop of 77 kg compared with 2003.
In 2003, the amount of hallmarked gold decreased by 353 kg and the year before by 392 kg.
Overall, hallmarks were applied to about 1.9 million gold jewels last year.
"Fall of sales (of gold jewellery) has slowed in recent years which implies that recession on the market is over," the Assay Office head Martin Novotny told CTK on Tuesday.
He assigned revived demand to rising purchasing power of Czech people.
