Sep. 1--LOWELL, Mass. -- Starting today, residents of Eastern states are eligible to receive free credit reports under a federal law passed in 2003.
State laws in Massachusetts, as well as Maine, Maryland, New Jersey and Vermont, already guaranteed residents access to free reports.
Today will mark the last of four phases for the new program, which began with Western states in December 2004.
