Consumer spending on personal computers looks to remain strong this holiday season, says a new survey, but high gasoline prices and other factors could change that.

The IBD/TIPP Home Computer Purchase Outlook Index stands at 19.3. That's above the 12-month average of 18.6.

That signals "mildly bullish" demand for new PCs over the next six months, says Constantine Kambanis, an analyst at TechnoMetrica Market Intelligence.

"Overall I would expect a better holiday season this year than last year," Kambanis said. "But high energy prices may put a damper on that."

Gas Prices Hurt

As gas prices rise, consumers might feel they have less money to spend on items like new PCs, he says.
