Stay focused, says strategist David Jakielo, co-author of "The Sales Coach." Enter the talks with a clear picture of the results you want -- down to themost minute detail. You'll avoid the unexpected, including concessions you hadn't planned on making.
Here are other negotiating tips:
** Maintain your walk-away power. Never get desperate, even when the going gets tough. If you want something badly, you may get it exactly that way -- badly.
Be willing to walk, and call the other side's bluff if necessary. The side with the greatest walk-away power has the upper hand.
