Falling prices hit July chip sales
Worldwide semiconductor sales fell 0.03% from the year ago to $18.01 bil, with slumping sales in each region but Asia. Chipmakers were trading lower on Thursday, with Intel down 2% to 25.26 and Applied Materials down 3% to 17.73. The Semiconductor Industry Association said there are concerns electronic consumer product sales could drop if energy costs continue to rise.
Intel says fault lies with AMD
The giant chipmaker defended itself from a suit filed by AMD alleging it illegally manipulated the microchip market by contending that its smaller rival was to blame for its own competitive failings.
